The Canadian Corn Pest Coalition (CCPC)
The Canadian Corn Pest Coalition is a collaborative group of experts promoting the proper stewardship of corn pest management technologies. They bring together industry leaders in corn breeding and experts in entomology, insect resistance management, pathology, agronomy, and regulatory bodies. They are committed to the common goal of responsibly deploying and managing pest management technologies for corn in Canada to support their continued effectiveness.
The Crop Protection Network (CPN) is a multi-state and international partnership of university and provincial Extension specialists, and public and private professionals that provides unbiased, research-based information. Their goal is to communicate relevant information to farmers and agricultural personnel to help with decisions related to protecting alfalfa, corn, cotton, small grains, and soybeans. Through multi-state and international efforts, the CPN enhances the visibility and success of agricultural extension while providing important crop protection information to farmers, agribusiness, and educators.
Field Crop News is a resource for Ontario field crop production managed by the Field Crop Unit of the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA).
The Field Heroes campaign was developed by the Western Grains Research Foundation to Increase awareness of beneficial insects and the important role they play in pest management. They provide tools for growers and agronomists to identify the most common beneficial insects found across Western Canada. The goal is to increase the likelihood of beneficial insects being considered in production decisions and create a platform for entomologists to share their knowledge with growers and agronomists.
Insecticide Resistance Action Committee – The Training Centre
The Insecticide Resistance Action Committee (IRAC) works as a specialist technical group of the industry association CropLife, with the goal to prevent or delay the development of resistance in insect and mite pests. The training modules are educational programmes prepared and reviewed by insecticide resistance experts in their capacity as members of IRAC International.
The Midge Tolerant Wheat Stewardship Team is a broad industry coalition representing plant breeders, government, seed growers, seed distributors and producer groups. The team is committed to maintaining the viability of Midge Tolerant Wheat by educating Canadian wheat producers on the importance of proper stewardship of the technology.
Prairie Pest Monitoring Network
Prairie Pest Monitoring Network (PPMN) has been involved in developing monitoring protocols and in coordinating and conducting insect population monitoring of pests of field crops. The PPMN is comprised of field crop entomologists who conduct research and actively monitor insect pest populations to support crop protection programs on the Canadian prairies.
Tools for growers
The Canadian Corn Pest Coalition keeps an updated list of BT corn products that are available in Canada. Also available in French.
A searchable database to find pest management and crop protection options for Ontario, managed by OMAFRA. It includes a Herbicide Resistance Weeds Database and Maps tool that allows you to search for the prevalence of herbicide resistant weed species that have been confirmed through testing since 1998. You can filter by species, county, herbicide tested etc. and view the testing details of a specific population.
International Herbicide Resistance Weed Database
The International Survey of Herbicide Resistant Weeds is a collaborative effort between weed scientists in over 80 countries. Our main aim is to maintain scientific accuracy in the reporting of herbicide resistant weeds globally. This collaborative effort is supported by government, academic, and industry weed scientists worldwide. This project is funded by the Global Herbicide Resistance Action Committee and CropLife International.
